(THANK YOU!!) However, Word and Excel still will not open/respond. It did allow quickbooks to open and all appears to be normal. There were 3, and I now have 4 such files showing. I did NOT uninstall any files as I didn't know which one was tied to quickbooks. I read it and downloaded the "Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable".

It will NOT GO AWAY!! I have another thread on here asking how to fix that issue and did not get a response. Just FYI, I had some issues about three years ago with AVG and have since tried to uninstall it from my PC. So given the lists above, is there something else I need installed or uninstalled? Are the 2008 above different than the link you attached? I am assuming this is what you are referring to? I don't see the word "runtime" anywhere so if there are more I don't know what else to look for. Then after I scroll down a little more there are three Visual Studio listed, all from AVG Tech. ), which is the date my system auto updated.

I tried to scroll through a few pages of threads currently out there, but I didn't see one with this problem, or if it was similar I didn't understand the lingo. The little circle goes round and round, but nothing happens. I just checked a couple of other programs and noticed that Word and Excel no longer respond. That is the extent of my computer knowledge. Is this something that can be fixed? I did try a system restore. It lists 272 that show "warning" or "error". Please use sxstrace.exe for detailed diagnosis. Dependent Assembly ,processorArchitecture="x86",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b*,type="win32:,version=*2.8* could not be found. It says, "Activation context generation failed for C:\Program Files (x86)\Intuit\QuickBooks 2013\QBW32.EXE". I searched the system settings and found the event log. Please see the application event log or use the command line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail." I click on the shortcut and get an error, "The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Came back to it today and had to restart my computer. When I turned on my computer yesterday it automatically began a Windows 10 update.
